ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I have been preoccupied for a number of years with making multi-part sculptures that hang suspended in space, poised in equilibrium to complete a dynamic action such as spinning, exploding, flying, falling, or germinating. Sculptures are fabricated from ordinary materials (wire, deconstructed artificial flowers, printed paper, fabric, sheet metal, plaster) into colorful hybrid forms that combine abstract and recognizable elements and imagery.

Exploding bouquets of flower petals and patterned paper fighter planes (F-35’s) hovering in duets and kaleidoscopic arrays, seduce with brilliant color and playful gestures but have undercurrents of danger and destruction.

I intend the work to be beautiful, buoyant, questioning and hopeful.
