Artist Statement

The botanical drawings are meditations on ageing, loss, the fragility and transience of our lives, which stays always at the edge of our vision.

Working with graphite on mylar the drawings develop in unexpected and unplanned ways so that the final image is the culmination of the search to find the drawing. This process is what artists call “finding the drawing” rather than “making the drawing” Ultimately it is the unexpected and unplanned that is as essential to the drawing as is the mylar and graphite.
