ARTIST'S STATEMENT

My work is concerned with information distribution and methods of display, especially as employed by museums, libraries, and other institutions of knowledge. Display cases, vitrines, labels, and lighting create a platform for what we understand to be authoritative reality. I work to break down this authority by imitating clinical language and established standards to promote information and stories that are often unheard, overlooked, ignored. At times I intermingle data and persons that may or may not be real, and events and antidotes that are unbelievable or wholly invented with purposefully forgotten pasts. Through playful yet involved architectural installations I hope to challenge dominant historical views, while instilling reactions of curiosity, wonder, and the questioning of traditional narratives. These questions eventually extend beyond the artwork and resurface in the institutions whose display methods are mimicked.
