OPPORTUNITY FOR ARTISTS & CURATORS

"OPEN A.I.R.“ A NEW CALL FOR CURATORIAL PROPOSALS

DEADLINE: July 10, 2010

All women artists and curators are invited to submit curatorial proposals for a small, group exhibit to be held at A.I. R. Gallery in Gallery II from February 1 through 27, 2011.

Open A.I.R. expands the gallery’s mission: to exhibit work of quality and diversity by women and to provide leadership and community to women artists and professionals. A.I.R. Gallery views Open A.I.R. as a unique opportunity for both professional curators, as well as young and emerging curators, to produce vital and challenging projects that engage the public and present fresh ideas.

SELECTION & NOTIFICATION PROCESS

A panel of A.I.R. Gallery’s NY artist-members review the exhibition proposals. The top selected proposal will be presented in Gallery II in 2011 and the second selected proposal will be realized in virtual form on A.I.R. Gallery’s website during the 2010-2011 season. Curators will be notified by email before October 22, 2010

Proposals will be judged on the originality and feasibility of the curatorial proposal and on the quality of the work submitted. Proposals must include at least 50% women artists. All women worldwide, regardless of age, curatorial experience or place of residence are encouraged to submit a proposal. A.I.R. Gallery’s New York Artists are not eligible to apply. Curators may choose to include their own work in the exhibition. Work in all media and materials may be submitted. Exhibitions must include 3 or more artists and may include one or more A.I.R. Gallery Artists in their exhibition. Gallery floor plans are available here.

COMMITMENT & BENEFITS

A.I.R. Gallery is responsible for publicizing the exhibit, producing announcement cards and supporting the curator in the exhibition process. The curator is responsible for writing a press release with the assistance of the Gallery Director, assisting with the installation and de-installation of the exhibit, assuring the availability and delivery of the artwork and giving a gallery talk or hosting a related event during the exhibition. A.I.R. Gallery does not provide travel costs for artists and curators or fund the shipping of artwork. The curator will receive at least $500 for the project.
