Artist Statement

Within my paintings, spaces, figures, and spatial relationships represent internal conflicts and a disconnection with the self. Objects are deliberately placed within constructed spaces, alluding to the notion of a creator and the idea that even in our most quiet and intimate spaces, we are incapable of finding rest, clarity and cohesion of the self within our domain. The dream state and unconscious world proposed by the Surrealists has invaded our personal, safe spaces, revealing, in a bold manner, a world constructed by cultural ideals and driven by the desire for a perfectly curated life. Attempting to utilized external symbols to represent a truth of one’s inner self perpetuates this dream state as a component of our constructed reality.
