Combining large archival pigment prints with intimate photobooks, Contrapuntalpresents the work of Maxine Henryson. Featured are To See with My Own Eyes and Reflections in the Field of Consciousness, two poetic series photographed in Italy and Germany between 2011 and 2015. The exhibition includes seven 40-by-60-inch archival pigment photographs and three photobooks, 20, 7, and 14 feet in length.

By photographing markers of complex historical contexts with elaborate use of color, Henryson explores the differences and similarities between Italian and German cultures. Intuitively capturing objects, interiors, figures, landscapes, religious sites, and views of nature, the artist transforms the ordinary into images that challenge a fixed reading.
