LOGAN LYNETTE BURROUGHS

Artist Statement

My practice utilizes images, sound, and installation to locate, realize, and remember. I’m interested in the perseverance of Black existence, and how it evolves, transforms, and remains. I’m interested in adding to the archive for future generations to come. Being born in Atlanta, GA, and bred in the South, maybe we can say it’s influenced my appreciation in mundanity. Holding the little things. Slowing down to absorb the details, including the quietness in between. I invite the viewer to sit in these moments. Family photo albums, history archives, and the role they play in providing information of a people and time is one of the motivations behind this work.

Photography was my sole practice of documentary ‘til it dawned on me video is just moving photographs. And what happens when you add sound? What does that activate? I like the idea of immersing someone into the work. How can we wake up the senses? Sight, sound, and potentially touch? That’s what I’m thinking about now with installation, adding in sculptural elements for folks to interact with, creating environments that potentially scratch at a memory.

Essentially, this is all in the name of folks being able to remember.

Remembering.

Remembering.

Living beyond.
