Painting is a unique fictive arena where there is the potential for almost anything to occur in an indeterminate shifting space between abstraction and representation. My paintings collage together botanical imagery, digital distortion, fragments of the internal human body, and manufactured packaging, while collapsing and questioning their boundaries. The internal rationale of this painted realm is disjunctive, as it presents disparate unlike passages and unexpected amalgams of form. This exploration of hybridized imagery mirrors a current cultural perspective where genetic manipulations and the boundaries between organisms are increasingly blurred and problematic. Musing on the ecological interdependence of organic and inorganic systems, this series expresses concern for our cultural attitudes and perceptions of our place within nature.
