Light and Color
Jisoo Lee

GALLERY I

September 6 - September 30, 2012

Light and color play an important role in the interpretation of Lee's paintings. Light’s ever-‐changing essence illuminates objects in a way that transforms their physicality and meaning. This illuminative quality can be both mysterious and clarifying, creating distortions and new interpretations that enlighten and produce multiple readings. The quality of light, be it natural or artificial, bright or dim, affects an object's appearance in a way that allows endless transfiguration and rebirth. Similarly, as the color scheme changes, interpretations freely extend from formal to emotional, analytic to sensuous. Like light and color, Lee's imagery is has a fluid identity that cannot be captured or contained but instead has ever-‐changing poetic resonance.
