Spirit Boats

An exhibition of recent sculpture by artist Arden Scott of New York opens at A.I.R.Gallery, 40 Wooster Street in SOHO, on April 15, 1997. Called Spirit Boats, these lightweight, intricate vessels are made of a variety of materials: wood. cloth. copper papier-mâché, on a skeleton of wood, copper wire or welded steel. No two are alike Hanging or tree standing, they radiate a haunting (phantasmagoric or tantomelike) quality. The Spirit Boats appear fashioned for the soul, departing or returning, on its mythical voyage.
