Artist Statement
I am a conceptual artist and witch. I consider my practice to be a form of spellwork. Through projects spanning performance, video, sound, and photography, I explore themes of physical and psychic accumulation, calling into question audience expectations. Repetitive actions hint at mysterious prior events. The viewer must extrapolate the significance of these proliferating gestures, which take on a deeper emotional charge as they slowly and inexorably pile up. The experience of time becomes uncoupled from the productivity demands inherent to late-stage capitalism, and we are offered an embodied respite from the black hole of the continuous scroll. A spell is a ritual initiated with the intent to enact change. This is a spell: I want to create a space in which collective care is able to flourish.
