In conjunction with her exhibition La Cosecha (The Harvest), 2025-2026 A.I.R. Fellow Romina Chuls will be in conversation with Laura Harris. In this talk, Chuls will discuss La Cosecha, focusing on how it draws on the iconography of a pre-Hispanic funerary textile to imagine a cycle of shared gestation, care, and renewal. Chuls will discuss her research on the funerary shroud and how it evolved into the works presented at A.I.R. Gallery.

Romina Chuls (b. 1991, Lima) is a researcher and multidisciplinary artist. Her work focuses on postcolonial gender issues in Peru and Latin America. She holds an M.A. in Arts Politics from NYU Tisch School of the Arts (2022). She earned a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, with a major in painting, from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú in 2016. In 2021, she was awarded the AAUW International Fellowship to support her studies at NYU and her research on anti-colonial pregnancy interruption practices. Her solo shows include Parir los Pétalos (2023), at Real Art Ways, Hartford; Clandestinas (2020) at Galería Forum, Lima; and Tierra Incógnita (2017) at Fundación Euroidiomas, Lima.
Laura Harris is Associate Professor of Cinema Studies and Art & Public Policy at NYU. She is the author of Experiments in Exile: C. L. R. James, Hélio Oiticica and the Aesthetic Sociality of Blackness (Fordham University Press, 2019). She has also published in Social Text, Women & Performance, Criticism, The South Atlantic Quarterly and other journals.
